2026 Challenge: Agentic AI – Bring Your Own Data!
Welcome to the 2026 LLNL Datathon, where everyone is invited to bring any publicly available dataset and a related research question. This year’s central theme is agentic AI, AI systems that can autonomously reason, plan, and act. Your challenge is to design, implement, and present a question-answering system tailored to your data using agentic AI.
This QA system should not only answer specific queries but also demonstrate the ability to analyze, interpret, and present findings in an insightful manner. Participants will use agentic AI to explore their data, uncover patterns, and generate meaningful responses to their research questions.
You are encouraged to use any open-source agentic AI platform or toolkit and to be creative in both the questions you pose and your interactions with the agent. Judging criteria include clarity of problem definition, effective use of agentic AI, depth of analysis, and quality of insights and/or visualizations.
Panel Discussion: “Leveraging Agentic AI for Everyday Work”
A panel discussion exploring practical experiences, challenges, and best practices for using agentic AI in work tasks. Emphasis will be placed on informed engagement, understanding its capabilities, limitations, and common pitfalls. Attendees are invited to participate in the conversation and discover how emerging tools can reliably assist in day-to-day research.
